This 15 inch sculpture is a scale model of the monumental 24-foot American Horse by American sculptor Nina Akamu, which is situated on the piazza to your right. Akamu’s equine masterpiece pays homage to the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci and his model for a 24-foot monument in Milan, Italy which was destroyed in 1499. Both the 15-inch and the 24-foot versions derive from Akamu’s 8-foot master model. A bronze edition of the master model is also located at the Frederik Meijer Gardens….
